Old wheels and durometers

So I held onto some Rat Bones I got as a kid I'm gonna say from around 1989 or 90. They are 95a but compared to the 95a Spitfires I've been riding lately they feel much softer. Were the durometer ratings not that accurate back then?

Maybe they've softened with age?

Or maybe the formula is different for what the wheels were designed for i.e. Park, ramp, pool, street etc
