5th series brigade decks

edited November 2014 in Bones Brigade
Just wondering what you guys think of the color ways as they are starting to show up in the mail.

I got my Hawk today and to be honest the color way is more disappointing than I had imagined. I know for some this color way means something as you may have had it as a kid but besides that it kind of sucks. I'm thinking I should have spent my $100 on a Guerrero instead.

  • Wow that's no good dude..hope I like mine when it arrives
  • I hope you like yours too, don't get me wrong slip I like the shape and the black dip but the accent color just doesn't pop. I was hoping to get that oh wow feeling when I opened the box and it just wasn't there (╯︵╰,)
  • I got my Hawk and McGill late last week and am really happy with them. But I agree with you on the Hawk..the purple doesn't really jump off the deck. The black decks were never my favorite though ... but I'm really digging these ones. I'm hoping they release more color ways down the road.
  • The purple never really popped on my black claw back in the day either. it was kind of subtle unless light hit it on a particular angle. you are right though, it is more for nostalgia value for me and i bet like slip, doc and boner, i'm champing at the bit

I keep seeing pics of them that others have got already and it's making me really restless! Going mental for sure. On the accent color thing - so it's not like the welinder then? The blue used on that deck was unreal, a nice metallic finish, is the purple sort of a matt finish?

While I agree the Hawk reissue wasn't the best color choice, it's still not bad. I commend PP for actually keeping the OG color on that particular deck. Every other reissue in the 5th series isn't really a "reissue" more a "re-do". The Guerrero purple isn't OG, the Mullen white with yellow skeleton isn't OG, the McGill black isn't OG, the Mountain yellow not to sure about... I do know it needs wheels wells. The Cab is OG correct besides the bats graphic running all the way to the edge of the deck. So with all that being said the Hawk is the closest PP got to reissuing an OG'ish deck. The rest are somewhat artistic interpretations. I'm hoping for a 6th series with some hot/neon 80's colors, but who knows with PP at this point I've kinda given up hope. We have a better chance of a tie-dye set than the colors we actually want. I think PP enjoys screwing with us :)
  • Its metallic but good reference to the blue on the welinder, the purple just doesn't produce the same effect that the blue does. Hell I don't know maybe I'm being a picky board snob ..lol

I'm stoked to have one and glad that PP even made this happen just could have been so many other color ways. Like jeep says let's hope they do a 6th series.
  • I doubt a 6th series is on the cards, but Kam did give us big reason to hope for more snakeskin colors and cab's using those shapes. Who knows though, wouldn't surprise me if they released limited run hawks and guerrero's in the future, sort of like they've done before for the future primitive and welinder reissues
  • I'd be surprised about anymore other than just the McGills and Cab's myself..
  • Do the purple bits have that pearl type effect to it, like the og has?
  • I hope the purple bits are pearlescent doc, they'll look cooler that way i reckon. by the way jeepy, as somebody else posted in another discussion, the cab is the least og of the 5th series, really the most of a hotch potch. like they said it's a dragon and bats graphic on a chinese dragon shape, when the shape should have been a nipple nosed dragon and bats. that may be why the bats go over the edges?

Nah they had that shape too for og dragon bats decks. They were street and full size
  • I must be mistaken again then slip. it's just i only remember the nipple shape and all the recent dragon and bats were also nipple. sorry slip, my mistake

Lol all good dude...I have a feeling you might be half right though. I know they only did certain shapes for some of the colors and I'm pretty sure they only had a light blue on the street shape.

Hey I just got confirmation of my order from OCD. So good, they give 10% discount on orders over $200 so got 2 of em for $234
  • Yeh Slip, l got the phonecall today saying my Hawk had arrived. The dude at the OCD shop was as stoked as l was when he was telling me!
  • Hahaha! For sure man, did you speak to Che? That dude loves the reissues

Yeh it must of been him mate. Yeh it's great to talk to a skate shop owner who's as old as us! Haha! .......So now we've finally got the chin era boards....who's gonna be setting at least one board up? Or am l the only one?? I want to set up a board from each era.... The Barbee will be next for me, and that will cover the BAN THIS times.
  • Yea I'm setting up the snakeskin. Figure if there's more colors coming, then I can thrash this one..have to wait for xmas though. I'm allowed one peak before it gets put away just to check there's no dings or scratches
  • Wake here is a link to an OG dragon and bats that the 5th series Cab is trying to emulate- http://vintage-longboards.biz/2014/11/03/nos-1988-powell-peralta-steve-caballero-skateboard-deck-vintage/
Besides the bats running to the edge of the deck in the reissue it's a pretty close copy.
  • The Hawk is OK - the top is pearlescent black, the bottom regular black with purple pearlescent. The Hark graphic is regular paint. The shape is pretty accurate - it wasn't exactly perfect aligned to my bonite Hawk. Overall it doesn't blow me away, but it's nice.

I have ONE OG Powell, and of course it's this colorway Hawk...

The McGill is similar to the Hawk. Nice, but not the best color choice. Hopefully more are on the way.

The Cab is fucking brilliant. Great to see that graphic on that shape, and the colors are amazing. The best Brigade deck IMO. And I didn't even want more Cab reissues.

The Lance is also really nice, really great colors. Would have preferred orange on top (it's yellow). A nice surprise.

I regret not getting the Guerrero, but reckon I can get it for Christmas. I'll bet the purple is really nice.

Jeeprider.... Along with my two new decks here is my Street Cab reissue from either 2005 or 2006 (can't remember) and the bats run all the way to the edge of that one also...other than that, it seems pretty close to the og shape and colors. Although...it's been a loooong time since I have seen an OG in person and actually held it in my hands.

Can't get the image to work...
  • Yeh Slip, l have to wait till Xmas for mine too. Gonna be an awesome morning putting that baby together and skating it down the street! Yeeeew!!!

  • cwalker3 any chance you could shoot photos of the reissue and OG hawk next to one another? Being as all I have is the reissue it would be interesting to compare.
  • Thanks Jeepy. that is the first time i've laid eyes on an og of that cab shape and graphic. so the other shape with that graphic was the street cab? realistically as well, the chinese dragon seems to have more of a blunt nose than that pic you posted
  • I bit the bullet and went through OCD. Che was really cool and helpful. My guy in Newy was just too lax and I didn't want to miss out. $130 is a good price as well. Be here in 3-4 days. Looks like there is four OCD monkeys on this forum now…see no, hear no, speak no, and do no lol
