Hawk slipster. interesting as well, they've sold out of snakeskins. hey texas ranger, in those pics you just posted, the reish looks more like a scaled down claw...i like
The pictures don't do the comparison justice as there is a fisheye effect going on. Overall it's within a few mm all around compared to the full size XT.
cwalker3 thanks for taking the time to take the photos. The reissue looks pretty spot on, the biggest difference I can see is the nose on the og is narrower/more of a rounded point. The reissue seems slightly squatter and wider. I agree with wake it's reminiscent of the Hawk claw. All in all it's a great reissue.
That's the only advantage, in my opinion, about black bonite decks. I think the other colors really jump off the deck better with the unpainted bonite. The screened black has too much shine. I see it when I look at my og lmfp and the 4th bb reissue. Love both of them, but there is just something about the bonite. ...purely from a graphic design.
Got to say I think PP did an excellent job on the Hawk, as close to the OG as Powell will give us. Bought the Lance because of the graphic, but very disappointed that PP did not put wheel wells on the deck and the original oval dragon. Passed on the McGill and Guerrero. I did buy the Mullen and wish I didn't. I'm a sucker for the graphic, but like the yellow in the 3rd series should have passed. Would like to have seen PP reissues the white with red skeleton or atleast a color that was more correct. The red and blue have been the highlights in Mullen series.
Since the lmfp and mullen were already issued and they went with the original lmfp, I wonder why they didn't go with the original mutt for the 5th. It's the only deck to get 5 different colorways. Not complaining, just wondering aloud.
I've decided not to ride my hawk, think I'll build or buy a shadow box for it... If I get me a Guerrero though, that'll be a different story. I'm half tempted to get a Mullen mainly cause freestyle decks fascinate me... Never had one before. Might have to get some short shorts, tube socks, and hit the driveway
I only got one so it's sk8 porn at the mo. if i got the snakeskin as well i would've thrashed that. my ripper, modded hawk picto, and underhill suffice at present for thrashers ppk187
OK, so 4 weeks ago I ordered the Hawk, Mcgill, and Mullen from Old Skull Skates. I called today and they said it would be at least another 2 weeks before they ship because Powell is backed up.
So here is my question: Why does making these things take Powell so long? In the Bones Brigade documentary they were saying that the riders were getting paid something like $10,000 to $20,000 a month at $1 a deck. So Powell was producing somewhere around at least 50,000 decks per month back in the 80's heyday (Hawk, Cab, Mcgill, Mountain, Guerrero 10,000 Boards each. Lets assume no one bought the freestyle boards even though Rodney rules). I have watched all of the Powell Peralta factory tour videos online…they have a nice impressive facility…So where are my boards? They only have to produce 2500 of each deck. According to 1980's numbers, this should be a snap. They also save time because they no longer silk screen to the deck, but to transfers. Do they not employ enough people to optimize their facilities?
Yeh dude, scored my Hawk on Tuesday. Gonna skate the shit out it on Xmas day! Rather skate it then look at it, but that's me. I'll eventually get a Cab and McGill. If they release more colourways.
Back in the 80s it was only Powell Peralta. Now Skateone is PP, bones, these, hoopla, minilogo, etc... I personally think Skateone should just be PP and bones. All the other stuff is boring.
