Now T-shirt quality too?!

First thin decks that twist became the new norm. Now we can’t even have a decent T-shirt?

After 300+ purchases I swore off buying decks, as the quality has diminished so drastically. Still a fan of what the brand was though, I was still repping T-shirts.

Bought a pile from SkateOne over the summer, and this is the state of quality: shirts so thin, you can see the graphic straight through on the other side! Think cheap concert merch, but way worse.

SkateOne - why?!

there are different ways to print shirts like heat transfer, dtg, sublimation, silkscreen, dtf etc the photo looks like the printing company might have did dtg so it isnt that the shirt quality sucks but just printed in a different way and thin shirts are good for spring and summer as the shirts i have for my wheel company are also made thin specifically because i wanted my customers to still feel somewhat cool during east coast summers and fabrics come in different weights so all in all not a big deal (the lower the oz the thinner the fabric) i do miss those old hanes beefy tees they used to do though and id also like to add that the military also does spring and summer winter uniforms as well just for a bit of knowledge to give to u but thank u for attending my ted talk
  • Bill - I’ve been buying these T’s for 15 years. They are not the same quality. They are tissue thin, feel like sandpaper on your skin, and they shrink 30%.

Appreciate the mansplaining, but it IS in fact a crap quality blank that they’re now using.

i got a few and they feel fine to me so i dont know i guess u can try a softener or something and u can always change the fabric shape by using some conditioner and stretching it out they do remind me of the hanes tagless tees it is also possible u may have a hyper sensitivity issue with ur skin and u can also try vinegar to maybe fix it as well and it is possible that the shirt was in a dry place and evaporated all the moister content or the shirt wasnt woven properly but i guess u can talk to the manufacturer about it if u can get that info and it definitely isnt the smoothest fiber ive ever felt so i understand what ur saying

LOL, it’s not my skin. Seriously, it’s a “me” problem, and not a quality issue? I mean in the pic you can see how thin it is - you can see through it. Best I could describe it is akin to a cheap handkerchief.

I bought a pile of these direct from Skateone - like I’ve done every year for about 15 years. (Well, usually I buy from SoCal…) This is a first from a quality standpoint.
  • yea i dont know maybe someone else has the same issue we will see but i havent seen anything about it
  • I know you're just trying to be helpful.

It's just rough to see the continued spiral in quality here...

Oddly enough the "Bones" branded stuff is fine. Honestly guessing they figure us geezers will buy anything they slap the old branding on. Not this geezer...
  • yea all good no harm no foul and unfortunately some companies are absolutely like that which sucks as a whole
  • The last few I bought feel a lot thinner and cheaper than earlier runs. It's clear they keep changing shirt companies, different tags and materials. But yea the last batch seems weak. My favorite shirt graphic was always the flammable bones shirt, I had a bunch back in the day, begged for a return. When they were re-released I bought a ton of them. I still have 4 still in the bag. I compare those to the different shirts I recently bought, night and day difference.
  • Chris, you have great taste in shirts. Flammable is my all time favorite.
  • Flammable was hot!
  • hope u buy a shirt from me at some point
  • Thanks cw3. Was preparing to buy a round of new tees and noticed "soft spun cotton jersey" in the description. Don't remember ever seeing that, so checked the forum and found your post. You just saved me from the hassle of needing to return an order. Bummed, though, cuz I do love to rock the old school PP gear. Oh well, guess--just like us at some point--all good things eventually come to an end. RIPper...

so i just looked at my sakura shirts i got one in red and one in celadon (it is actually called mint ice via the sticker) and on the mint ice one the print can be seen from inside the shirt and the red one u can see it also so figured id throw that in there since i was curious i also looked at my blue ripper shirt i have and the print cant be seen thru that one but i got a celadon skull and sword shirt where u can see the print but in the end it isnt a big deal and like i said it more so comes down to the printing method the print shops chose and 5.5oz is the standard quality for the average shirt and i also noticed some of the shirts are made in mexico and some are made in nicaragua so yea just like i said via my third comment and just for the record anything below 5.5 would be considered thin by industry standards and anything above 5.5 would be considered heavy and also i just got a red animal chin shirt and while u can see the print on the inside u can barely see it #shirtprinting #printingshirts #dtg #screenprint #screenprinting #sublimination #garmentprinting #directtogarment

  • I have several shirts I’ve had to repurchase because they shrunk after a wash and them being super thin quality. I still have shirts that are still in bags because I know they will shrink. Now if and when I buy Powell shirts, I have to size up.
  • to fix shrinking all u gotta do is put it in some conditioner and stretch it and it will go back to normal
  • Yeah, Powell T’s were my goto summer shirt for ~20 years. Great quality and fit. Now they are amongst the poorest quality, and very ill-fitting. Thin/cheap material, with sleeves and length that feel cropped. Makes a crappy Gildan shop T feel like an upgrade. And they’re 30 bucks!

Damned shame… Powell used to by synonymous with quality.

I used to spend 1000’s a year on Skateone product. From 2003 til 2023. Now I might get a deck or two a year on clearance, and a set of wheels….
  • They were best when they had the fabric tag imo
  • the hanes beefy tees
  • new bones shirt looks to be the same as the current powell shirts so if u dont like the powell shirts then u probably will be mad at the bones shirts now too
