Powell Peralta Pro Andy Anderson Heron 7-Ply Maple Skateboard Deck - 9.13 x 32.8
Learn More“There are so many within the skateboarding world who look at skating as a religion which must be practiced to exacting and specific standards; you must conform and ride this type of terrain, you must conform and do these types of tricks, you must not mix this style with that style, you must look this way or else etc. And then once in a while a skater like Andy comes along who doesn’t fit into this fanatical mold, a skater who is such an outsider himself that he doesn’t even fit into skateboarding. He doesn’t fit in because he’s not following it’s false mandates. What Andy is doing is living the creed of what a skateboarder is supposed to be. He’s not conforming nor is he looking for acceptance from conforming, and with that he’s accepting the grief and exclusion that comes with being a true outsider. That is what a real skateboarder is.” -Stacy Peralta

About the Cab Street Artwork:
In 1987 street skating was rapidly gaining popularity. Steve Caballero not only excelled at vert skating but was a top contender on the "Street-Style" circuit. Powell-Peralta decided to introduce an additional Cab deck model specifically designed for street. Artist V.C. Johnson created a new dragon graphic with a bats & bones background. Cab's name was also created in the bat shape since Cab was into Batman at the time. The Powell-Peralta logo was made using the Animal Chin font, also a sign of the times.

Powell Peralta Pro McGill Skull & Snake Skateboard Deck Navy - 10 x 30.125
Learn MoreAbout the Skull & Snake Artwork:
Just as Mike McGill was perfecting the 540 McTwist in the summer of 1984 at Swedish summer camp, V.C.J. was working on a new deck graphic for him. Since the "Skull & Bones" theme was proving to be popular, that was the direction chosen for McGill's new deck. Mike's input was to add the snake and lightning bolts since there is an abundance of both in his home state of Florida. McGill's Skull & Snake is truly a classic skateboard icon.

Learn MoreIn 1986 jump ramps were all the rage. Easy to build, portable and fun to launch off of. Unfortunately, decks were snapping left and right. Powell-Peralta deck returns were so high the company sought ways to make decks stronger and more resistant to jump breaks. One solution was Bonite construction. Another was the "Gee-Gaw" shape which had bumps to reinforce the break zone area. Why "Gee-Gaw?" Ask Chris Iverson. This shape was also used for the Skull & Sword graphic. They were originally produced between 1987 and 1988.

About the Cab Ban This Dragon Artwork:
In 1988 Powell-Peralta ran an "Artist Wanted" advertisement in TWS and Thrasher. The contest "winner" would get a job in the Powell-Peralta art department in Santa Barbara. The artist selected was Sean Cliver, mainly because his illustration style closely resembled VCJ's. Cliver's first deck design, the Barbee Ragdoll, was a departure from the traditional VCJ look, but when it came time to update the Caballero dragon, Sean emulated the master. At some point later, someone dubbed the graphic Cab "Ban This" Dragon since it was prominently featured in that video (think slow-motion sequence).

Powell Peralta GeeGah Skull & Sword Skateboard Deck Hot Pink - 9.75 x 30
Learn MoreIn 1986 jump ramps were all the rage. Easy to build, portable and fun to launch off of. Unfortunately, decks were snapping left and right. Powell-Peralta deck returns were so high the company sought ways to make decks stronger and more resistant to jump breaks. One solution was Bonite construction. Another was the "Gee-Gaw" shape which had bumps to reinforce the break zone area. Why "Gee-Gaw?" Ask Chris Iverson. This shape was also used for the Ripper graphic. They were produced between 1987 and 1988.
