Well, I am at 6 months of skateboarding now, so I made an effort to push myself a little bit today. Not really a push through “skills”...more of a push through “fear”. The holiday must have caused all the shredders to go to the park today, but they tolerated me as they all ripped that place up. Insane tricks like I haven’t seen at this park. It was awesome and humbling at the same time.
Anyway, I stomped down on my fear of the 6 foot drop in today. It’s just a drop in, So not much point in watching a video, but putting it here as a record of my slow progress.
The park seems pretty popular. I don’t have anything to compare to except the park in my own home town, which is 3 simple metal ramps. A good place to learn and then go to the big park for fun. Glad I got that last session in, because the weather probably won’t cooperate much more until spring.
I’m glad I can see others skating @dofrenzy ...with all the fires around here at the moment our air quality is worse than LA and Beijing, and has been for about 4 weeks. I have been limiting outdoor activities as my sinuses, throat and lungs are copping a hiding! I am coughing up phlegm as if I was a pack a day smoker!
Thanks @dofrenzy ! Newcastle @SkaterRick . Fires on the South Coast, just North of Bateman’s Bay, fires around the Hawkesbury, and one yesterday started at Pelaw Main, near Maitland, about 40 minutes from here after a fatal car accident. It’s been drought for quite a few years now, so a lot of the bush is like tinder!
Getting 3 days in a row at the park gave me the confidence to start learning to roll-in, and also plenty of time to practice my axle stall which is occasionally a “feeble” I think. Up until today, I couldn’t bring the feeble back in (I would freak out and bail) but 3 park days in a row really does a lot for progress. Some highlights below, about 50 seconds worth, from my Xmas Eve session today. Happy holidays everybody.
